Where is vin on 1966 mustang
The only person I knew who could help passed away a couple of years ago sadly. Looks like you have found the holy grail for your car and just added some provenance and money to the value of your car. I would just search the net or forums to help you.
The expertise to decode these treasures is very few now days. Net and forums would be your best bets. I was lucky enough to find the whole build sheet for my 67 mustang it was behind the instrument cluster taped to the wiring harness does this make my car with anymore. Hi, what a great find.
Build sheets are rare as it is. The fact you have one for your car will increase its desirability. Such strong providence will add more to the value, if it was a concours competition it would certainly help. Look after it. Common place for a build sheet. Who would look behind the seat backs for a build sheet? In fact any build sheet will add a nice provenance to your car as well as that pot of gold!
Taken from various sources and modified for my page. Error happened. Like this: Like Loading Personally, I'd be careful.
BTW: I have a Will they have vin seq. This No other VIN numbers stamped on the car I'm with Josh. I would be Leary also. Is the seller making it out to be an original 4 speed car, which has a better resale value than a T code, 6 cyclinder? You can start looking at the date codes on the car stamped in the sheet metal and see if they are close to the engine block, transmission, and rear end chunk.
These dates should also be prior to the date on the door tag by several months. But you need to have some time to crawl all over the car. If it was a conversion to 5 lug, then the front spindles may show different part numbers than what Ford said it should have.
New door tags can be purchased and have been available for purchase since the 80's I am told. Yeah, i can start checking for the date codes on eng. The car was sitting behind a barn for atleast 15 yrs. I pased by it almost daily, taking kids to school.
A Hydraulic press would probably do it. The method Ford used allowed the characters to bulge out underneath like the backer was not steel. Maybe very hard rubber or plastic or wood. You could cut out the hidden VIN from the passenger side and section it into the driver side where it is visible. That way you have a correctly stamped VIN I've never seen a re-stamp that looks anything like an original and you still have the VIN with the car it was originally assigned to. I was a Georgia State Trooper for years. If I ever do anything to the VIN on an old car, I get the Magistrate Judge involved and have him document every step I take just so everything is always squeaky clean.
Given the fact that 2 of the 3 stamps are still there and both agree with the original door warranty number, this would merely be a "proper repair. Thanks so much for the ideas, advice and opinions all have given.
I do have one question, Bryancobb you mentioned three vin stampings. I know about the two under the hood on each side of the car on the fender aprons, where would the third one be on the 66 convertible?
Usually the fender aprons had one VIN stamping on each side with the passender side being hidden, but sometimes the Driver's side fender apron was stamped twice making a 3rd VIN. It was obviously on the Warranty Plate on the Driver's door as well, but on the Warranty Plate, not on the car's sheet metal. Never seen a VIN stamped anywhere else. I've got a F given to me by a family friend since he's gotten a newer truck and doesn't need this one anymore.
