Can you carburate an lt1

Messages: 5, Likes Received: Nov 21, 2. Messages: 1, Likes Received: 6. Id say go for it. You might even find it makes more power with a quality carb intake than with the EFI. I know there is power to be made on an LS engine by trashing the EFI intake and going with a carb intake. I know a mag did a test with the new Eddy LT1 intake and lost power to the factory one, but that's still not a comparison of carb intake to EFI.. Nov 21, 3. Messages: 2, Likes Received: 7. Joekool you will want to look at my install thread to see whats involved to put that engine into your car.

You will pretty much be doing what I did, other than the fuel tank I used fits your car without mods. I would suggest just doing the install upfront and not bother with doing a carb first if you plan to do EFI later.

Thats throwing away money. As you will notice from my thread, I used a lot of the donor car, so if you arent going to do it right away, you have a LOT of stuff to strip and store! An LT1 without the EFI is basically a built , but with some added frustrations like reverse cooling and different exhaust ports. That parts car will give you some NICE seats, electric fans, radiator, etc newschool I have a new found respect for you Nov 21, 4.

Nov 22, 5. The Spanish arch exhaust ports require a special exhaust manifold, not sure what other engines used that design. I guess you just leave the Opti there. The radiator is pretty cheap online, if the fans survived you can use those still. I even reused the fuel lines. Seems like the real difference is just fuel pressure. I figure you will have to run an electric fuel pump anyway, so its a matter of buying the EFI fuel tank and using the LT1 as an EFI engine, or running a carb and running a low pressure fuel pump around 5 psi.

The optispark is a sorry ignition, so converting to a standard distributor will allow a larger choice of parts and a MUCH hotter spark. Feb 11, 28 Wichita damn Falls Tx. With a GM hot cam it went to hp and with roller rockers hp. I'm building a carbed LT1 for my 56 Ford like in the article.

We've got a 62 Pontiac with a '95 Impala SS injected driveline. It was a big learning curve for me to convert it. Email me for a copy of the ironhead article. Show hidden low quality content. Similar threads J. Fitech fuel injection. Jay Jan 17, New Users. Replies 6 Views
