What is the difference between vst and rtas

That's a huge cost for a small developer who can do VST on an old laptop. They're no more "the real deal" than any other digital plugin format. Waves for instance has stated over and over again that their plugs do identical processing on all plugin formats they support Just another plugin format. I know PTHD users like to say differently. TDM hardware dsp chips don't inject some special "mojo" into the plugin processing.

Once the signal hits the core of the plug, where the thing gets done, it does the same thing Jens, is there a twenty-syllable German word that means "one person said something so thoroughly sarcastic that he circled completely around the dialectical universe and started to be interpreted as sincere? In fact some plugins Waves for example produce exactly the same output regardless of bit depth, because the plugin's internal bit depth is lower resolution than the high-bit-depth formats.

But what other tools I'm using could be the culprit then? Oh, but to answer your question: not yet, afaik, but perhaps I'll make one up this evening. Which one sounds better? To my ears the TDM versions sound slightly smoother. Especially noticeable with most their basic compressors, at heavy ratios and large gain reductions. Someone at KvR suggested it might be because you need to dither in between stages in TDM which could contribute to this.

Then it's also fixed point integer versus floating point math which usually makes the coders do some compromises. As I stated above, this statement is untrue. I'll try to dig them out. When pestering waves themselves about this we got two different answers. The marketing department said all the plugins are identical but then later we got an email from one of their coders who said there might be very small differences that should not be heard in any real-world scenarios.

I guess there's a whole world contained within my qualifier "within the bit depth. But I would categorically say that there's no inherent reason why a VST should not sound "as good" as any other plugin format.

But there's nothing magical about the sound quality of 24 bit fixed point versus 64 bit floating point. But I didn't do the experiment myself, and perhaps something has changed since the experiment was done, so I'm not reporting firsthand observation. If you have different results, I'd be interested to see them. I've been working most of the time with VST plugins, and always wondered what was the difference between the two.

I even thought TDM could sound better just becouse it was in the big studios and it also costs way more I also thought they could sound better because of the DSP card. All of that changed when i spoke with a friend of mine, also a great engineer. He made me realize that DSP cards can't make a calculation sound better,it may give you more processing power.

Also, anything Pro Tools related costs way more Used correctly, they can improve and do things that are completely awesome. I think the question is valid if you have yet to choose a platform. Maybe he's in between DAWs.

A joyous past time in some haunts it generally stay's pretty civil here. However, I will say that there quite a few folks around here who see a bombardment or newbie-esque, over simplified and relatively inane styled questions, and it's not quite calling the sharks Seriously, if you need to know the basics, just ask in one decent conversational post.

Folks do share here Looks like you can hold your own, so I prolly don't need to say much more than welcome to the fray If they can't handle it Thanks CM. Actually the question is valid. It opened up the door for more information, as hueseph and CM presented. None of which, btw, have a thing to do with which is better or even speaks directly to the "poll".

In general, overall, a poll is the first indication that the "pol-er" is uninformed. VST is a common platform used by the multitude So the question is wrong and really has no answer in that respect. I recommend searching because it is akin to having all the encyclopedias available to the user in near real time. Granted incorrect information will be presented, but this is where the user must persevere to find well documented and trusted support. Codemonkey wrote: Right.

Use the shift key you lazy prick. Apparently the poster wasn't really ready for a quick opinion from all of us either :. LMAO- We are soooooo nice here. Read More. I think this…. Ah yes, the most subjective topic in all of music: who is the best keyboardist of all time?

With the advent of technology, there are now so many ways to further your knowledge with the piano. When it comes to discussing topics about pianos and keyboards, there are several great resources. There are some…. Steinway pianos are some of the most sought after pianos that money can buy.
