Which is better hoi2 or hoi3
I am greatly anticipating HoI3, but I am curious as to what all has changed. So i wanted to ask in here. Was the biggest fan and then HOI3 came to the world.
I think that I still carry mental scars from HOI3. Hey guys. Low resolutions, choppy gameplay etc. Is Darkest Hour the same in terms of preformance? You are commenting using your WordPress. Research system in those expansions is expanded but in a diffrent way then in HoI 3 imo it's better, supply system is improved, and there are more provinces in some countries then in HoI 3.
Altroug I dislike so many provinces in Africa. DoomBunny Field Marshal 32 Badges. Dec 17, 3. I prefer HOI3 due to the larger number of provinces, the brigade system and the chain of command, it allows for more complex warfare. Rummy Captain 11 Badges. Feb 13, In truth there are not a great deal of changes to HoI2, however for what has changed, it has improved dramatically.
Now you can compose the composition of each division with brigades. This does cause far more micromanagement with the need to make sure you have them setup how you want for each new operation, however it gives you a far greater sense of customability and ownership over the divisions you create and command. Another great feature was the removal of HoI2's production serials which were greatly flawed and unrealistic.
HoI3's current 'practical' experience isnt perfect but its far better. The only downside or disappointment I'd say for HoI3 would be the research. I liked it in HoI2 how I had to choose companies to tender out contracts to even if it was a little frustrating trying to work out the expected completion times and if I can get certain companies onto the next item asap. Hoi3 gave us a hell lot of complexity but lost a lot of historical events - better stick to the most recent incarnations of Hoi2 like AoD, IC or DH. With mods they are much better than Hoi3 from a historical perspective, also more modder-friendly. Research - new idea for custom unit designs! Last edited: Sep 19, Dec 15, 6. General 37 Badges. If you want a super in depth war with lots of micro hoi3 is your guy. If you want only a little more battle flavor management , over say an EU3 or Victoria type game or civilization hoi3 is your guy. My rule of thumb is: If i want to play a major power, I play hoi3.
Sep 15, 5 0. I think it is much more fun and HOI2 up to now has been my all-time favorite game. Actually giving me quite a bit of trouble in my first main run as Germany in the west - Brits came in across the channel with 10 divisions right after I had mopped up Belgium and turned southwest and caused all kinds of trouble in my rear. Need to scramble to deal with that when I pick up the sword later tonight! Sep 4, 1. In that september of ,I thought I will never recover to play this game. Than came another expansion, and another.
Personaly for almost 2 years I learned to hate inability of the game to offer indulging Air-Force and Navy Command chains. And it left there, this is only thing I considder this game is lacking. Everything else however now is I've never played a HoI game. I've eyed them in the past but much like Vicky I've never thought it looked different enough from EU to dive in. Someone tell me I'm completely wrong and it's a great game and maybe I'll wait for the next time it's on sale.
I never played HoI or HoI2. I have discovered an astonishingly good tutorial for HoI3. Okay, the guy does waste the first few minutes, but once he starts talking about the game Posted October 2, In HoI2 you're building corps out of divisions and deploy them to large provinces. There's no higher chain of command beyond corps level. HQs merely provide a supply buff in adjacent provinces; the skill of a HQ leader doesn't matter, he just has to be a general. In HoI3 you're building divisions out of brigades and deploy them to small provinces.
There's a detailled chain of command from division over corps, army and army group up to theater. Each level is represented by a HQ with its own leader and unlike HoI2, divisions have leaders too , and putting skilled leaders in high commands actually matters, because the more skilled a leader is, the more he buffs his subordinates.
More detail brings more micromanaging, though. You can automate pretty much everything, and unless you're a masochist, you will, trust me. For instance, if you're playing axis and are involved in Russia, the allies can an and will pester you with landing operations in France, something you don't want to be bothered with while planning wide scaled operations in the east. Fortunately you can automate the commander of the western theater to defend automatically and if he has the necessary troops, he will care about garrisoning and defending against invasions.
On the downside, more detail brings more AI problems. It just can't handle all the complicated stuff very well. Probably the best way to enjoy HoI3 is to automate everything up to army group meaning make it AI vs AI - meaning retard vs retard , give your attacking army group HQs realistic and logical objectives, keep a mobile "fire brigade" under manual control, open a beer and lean back to watch the epic battle and curse about the dumb AI.
HoI3 fully expanded and patched is worth a try, even though many of the oldschoolers still prefer HoI2 or one of its clones Arsenal of Democracy, Darkest Hour and others.
For a newcomer it's certainly the way to go. Bah, computer back from the shop and Took it back, got if fixed, came back home, Vic made me a delicious dinner, and now I'm trying hard not to fall asleep.
I have way too many games right now and definitely not enough time to get into another Paradox game. I'll buy it on sale and hope for some quiet time down the line.
IMO it's a solid game, but not great. There have been a lot of problems when it came out, but like most Paradox games it became at least playable, may be even enjoyable, two expansions and a lot of polishing later. The learning curve is of course as steep as in all grand strategy games.
Posted October 3, I did fire up the game and start the grand campaign, but could not get into the changes from HOI2. I also have Arsenal of Democracy and Darkest Hour, but have not given them much of a go either. I suspect the AI in 2 is the same as in 3, but just has less to deal with so appears to be better. S, credit card worked.
